Our pilots hail from several different states and a few different countries but all share the common passion for cycling and giving back to their communities. 80% are retired and are drawn to CWAL because it provides continued purpose and the ability to stay connected with others while being of service to other older adults and those with special needs.
Casey is originally from Mt. Lakes, New Jersey. She Grew up in Plano, Texas and moved to Colorado in 1998. She is currently living in Centennial, Colorado. Hobbies include running, riding bikes and spending time with family and friends. Why she loves being a pilot? Getting to know the seniors in her community and providing them opportunities and access to the outdoors. Listening to passengers tell stories about how Denver has grown and taking passengers through Hudson Gardens.
Marc is originally from Columbus, Ohio but lives in Morrison, Colorado currently. Hobbies include biking, golf, pickleball and reading. What he loves about being a pilot? Meeting and talking with the interesting people who we take on rides. Enjoying being outside and sharing a trishaw ride with others.
Barb is from Wisconsin. Hobbies include biking, baking and bringing joys to others. Why she loves being a pilot? Building relationships and celebrating the freedom of being on a bike. EVERYONE IS VALUED!
Chris is a Colorado native. His hobbies include fishing, bicycle riding and firing up the BBQ grill. Why he loves being a pilot? The adventure of being at one with nature and sharing it with a new friend. Also, the “I just had the most marvelous afternoon” comment he heard from a passenger made his day!
Dan was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan but moved to Colorado in 1986. Dan is a big fan of the mountains and outdoors. His favorite getaway is Grand Lake, CO where he enjoys year-round activities such as snowmobiling, hiking, biking, kayaking, and fishing. Dan is a technology geek and enjoys researching just about everything! Why he loves being a pilot? Volunteering is a privilege. What could be better than being outside on a bike (Trishaw) while meeting new people, learning their story, and creating friendships!
Bob has spent most of his life in the Denver area, growing up and attending grade school and high school in the Parkhill area. After six years away at college and working on the east coast, Bob returned to Denver, where he worked as an engineer, designing and building power plants all over the world. He enjoys traveling, biking, skiing, repairing antique mechanical clocks and woodworking. After helping both his mom and his mother-in-law in their final years while they were living in a retirement home, Bob realizes how special time out and about is for older adults. He is looking forward to taking CWAL passengers for a ride and talking with them, sharing stories about their lives and interests.
Jack and his wife Sandy moved to Highlands Ranch in November, 2020 from the central coast of California where he was born and raised to be near their two grandsons Jackson and Decker. Jack is a retired Parks and Recreation Manager who worked for the City of Mountain View. He is an avid bike rider and golfer taking advantage of the great trails and golf courses in Colorado. Why he loves being a pilot? He enjoys being around smiling people while sharing and listening to stories.
Melanie grew up in a Navy family, crisscrossing the country but always living near large bodies of water. After graduating from college in Florida, she decided to live somewhere new and different, and has lived in Colorado for more than 40 years. She converted from water sports to mountain activities and now hikes, bikes, and skis. She thinks becoming a pilot for CWA Littleton is a terrific way to meet new people and hear their stories, enjoy being outside, and have some fun.
Mary is a native Coloradan - she grew up in Golden; lived in Boston, Moscow (Russia), Chicago, NYC and San Francisco for school and work, but moved 'back' to CO in 2000, currently residing in Littleton. Hobbies include eating delicious food (created by others!), hiking, biking, skiing, traveling, volunteering at her kids' schools and attempting to make time to read. Why she loves being a pilot? Being a part of something that brings joy and smiles to others while being outdoors. She looks forward to meeting new people and hearing all about their adventures in life.
Allen grew up in Rockville Centre on Long Island, New York. He worked on Wall Street with CitiBank before moving to Denver 35 years ago to continue his finance career. Allen next headed up Business Development in the mountain region with a major finance company for large corporate opportunities. He and his wife Seanna are avid skiers, cyclists, tennis and pickleball players. They also enjoy hiking and backpacking the mountains with their border collie, Dax. Allen enjoys the peace and serenity of fly fishing. He is one of the founders of Team Evergreen Cycling Club, having done the Triple Bypass ride many times. Their two adult children continue to live in Denver. Allen heard about CWAL from his wife after she ran into a group of trishaw riders along the Platte River trail. Allen was intrigued about the opportunity to meet new friends, hear their stories, create relationships and to share his love for cycling and the outdoors with others.
Ted is from Arvada, Co and currently lives in Aurora. He enjoys hiking, pickleball, and spending time with friends and family. Ted loves being a pilot for CWAL because he can share his enthusiasm for cycling and the outdoors with others.
Bill is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated college from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri and was also a Naval Flight Officer, flying A-6 Intruder aircraft. Bill's career spanned 30 years in human resources and 15 as a financial advisor. He retired in 2019. Bill has been married for 41 years, has two daughters, two grandsons, ages 6 and 4, and two granddaughters, ages 4 and 2. He enjoys biking, hiking, golf, pickleball, travel (particularly beaches). I am looking forward to enjoying the great outdoors and meeting interesting and great people.
Jerome was born in Michigan, is a Michigan State alumnus (Go Green!) and has lived in the Denver area for over 40 years. He worked on many interesting and challenging projects during his career at Martin Marietta / Lockheed Martin. With his wife, Julie, he enjoys time with their family, travel, camping, hiking, snowshoeing, golf, and - of course - bicycling. Jerome considers piloting a great opportunity to be outdoors and meet wonderful people!
Jeff moved from Detroit to Colorado some 44 years ago. He has lived in Littleton for the past 41 years and never left. He guesses he must really love Littleton! Jeff is married to Theresa and they have 2 sons. He likes cars, golf, hiking and biking and cool man cave basements! Jeff is recently retired and this opportunity to serve our community is a great fit and something he is really looking forward to.
Koda was adopted from the Philippines as a toddler and grew up in the heartland of Iowa. After marrying in 2012, Koda and Kelly relocated to the vibrant community of Maple Grove, Minnesota, where they spent a decade creating memories together.
During their time in Minnesota, Koda and Kelly embraced the outdoors, enjoying tandem biking and exploring the numerous lakes in the area. Koda fondly remembers the days spent biking to work, relishing the freedom and joy that came from getting around on his own power, away from the constraints of a car.
In 2023, Koda and Kelly moved to Littleton to be closer to family. Koda's journey in the new community began with a role as a Littleton Public School bus driver, where he found great fulfillment in being a consistent and positive presence in students' daily routines. Riding his bicycle every day to the bus depot further fueled Koda’s enjoyment for cycling.
Cycling Without Age allows Koda to combine his enthusiasm for both cycling and community service. This initiative allows Koda to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others, helping to brighten someone’s day while fostering connections within the community.
Carol is originally from Darien, Connecticut. Hobbies include golf, tennis, skiing, yoga, and making others smile. Carol loves spending time with her family and friends as well as going on her daily walks with her dogs, Jack & Jill. Why she loves being a pilot? Meeting the passengers, listening to their stories, and being a part of an amazing group of volunteers.
Phil has lived in Littleton for over 30 years where community and civic service have been at the forefront of his life. He currently lives in Littleton Village with his wife, Cathy. He has five children and twelve grandchildren, and enjoys all aspects of Colorado as an avid cyclist, hiker, concert- and theater-goer. Phil genuinely cares about the community in which we live and wants to continue to serve.
Blaine grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois and went to college in Oklahoma. He had the opportunity to move to Colorado 45 years ago and has loved it since day one! Hobbies include spending as much time as possible biking, skiing, kayaking, hiking, and playing golf. Being a Pilot with CWA combines his love of cycling and giving back to our seniors who have done so much for our community.
Susie is from Ohio and moved to Colorado in 1992 where she met her husband and raised 3 boys. She is a retired math teacher who lives in Littleton and still tutors students. Her hobbies include biking, skiing, rafting, swimming, dancing and solving crossword/math puzzles. As a pilot, Susie loves to create and share joy with others while embracing the outdoors.
Tom came to Colorado in 1975 to go to graduate school at CSU, having grown up in Connecticut. He quickly fell in love with this state, and can’t imagine another place where he would like to live. Tom loves being outdoors and being physically active, so Colorado is the place for him! In particular, he spends time hiking, skiing, playing pickleball, cycling, and working out. In a quieter vein, Tom loves to read fiction and take classes on a variety of subjects to keep his mind active. He's drawn to CWAL for the opportunity to meet and get to know new people, and to share Colorado beauty as we cruise along bike paths.
Howard immigrated from Texas 40 years ago. He's an avid cyclist and also loves hiking, traveling, and just "hanging" with his wife. Howard is a volunteer with Bicycle Colorado, Douglas County Open Spaces as a Trail Ambassador, and the City of Lone Tree Citizens Recreation Committee. He loves to share travel stories and hear the wisdom of the older generation.
Reed was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and grew up, mostly, in the suburbs of Chicago. Growing up he had a cabin to go to so he fell in love with the outdoors, which led him to Colorado. Reed likes to hike, ski, bike, golf and do triathlons. He learns a lot from "listening" so piloting gives him the chance to grow and be a "sounding board" to those who want to share their story.
Aree is a Colorado native, though she spent many years exploring other states and countries before finding her way back to Colorado in 2000 to settle down with her husband and 3 daughters. She retired from an actuarial career to build a business as a success coach. She loves to be outside - biking, running, playing tennis, hiking, skiing, gardening, or beekeeping - most anything as long as there is no roof over her head! She loves being a pilot to hear others’ stories and have some fun under the Colorado sun.
Gil was raised in Short Hills, NJ and moved to Colorado in 1980 to be near the big hills, a.k.a. the Rocky Mountains. Gil is an avid runner and loves hiking, snowshoeing, sailing and attending concerts at Red Rocks. Why he loves being a pilot? He likes helping others enjoy the great outdoors of Colorado and giving them, and himself, new social opportunities.
Tom is originally from St. Louis, went to college in Kansas and grad school in Arizona, then worked in Southern California before moving to Colorado in 1995. He lives in Morrison and enjoys road cycling, hiking and golf in the summer, skiing and bowling in the winter. Tom also enjoys traveling, attending concerts and solving crossword puzzles. He loves piloting for the opportunity to create and nurture relationships with passengers, swap stories, and share a mutual love of the outdoors on a trishaw.
Although Roy is not from Iowa, 7 years in Iowa City made him feel like a native. He then lived for 40 years in Kansas City before moving to Colorado to follow his daughters’ relocations to Denver. Surprisingly — as the time has gone by so fast — Roy and his wife Linda have made Denver their home for 10 years (although they're not sure when they qualify for “native-ish” status). Bike trips, hiking/camping experiences and grandkids’ activities have replaced adventures in the court room and arbitration proceedings. Retirement is good. Combining bike riding and the social interaction with CWA passengers is what attracts Roy to piloting. “Like what you do, Do what you like”
Chris moved to Fort Collins, Colorado with her husband, in 1973 to attend CSU. After becoming an occupational therapist she began a career as a school therapist for mostly young children in Fort Collins and Cherry Creek Schools. She has 5 grandchildren under 10 and loves those family times at her house in Littleton. Chris’ favorite hobbies are gardening, walking and biking and feels grateful to be living, playing and still growing in Colorado. She is excited to be a pilot for CWAL, allowing her to meet new friends wanting to feel the wind in the hair along the Platte River.
Melissa was born in Ohio but moved to Colorado at an early age. She enjoys cycling, camping, hiking, paddle boarding, traveling and reading. She is a former software engineer who now uses her math skills to tutor high school students. What she loves about being a pilot? She loves sharing her passion for cycling and the outdoors with others, meeting new people, taking them on a beautiful ride and hearing their interesting stories from the past.
Scott grew up on Long Island east of New York City, but ended up going to college in Texas. After college he served 7 years in the US Navy. The Navy gave him the skills to work for United Airlines for the past 34 years. His hobbies include boating, biking and telling jokes. What he loves about being a trishaw pilot? He loves sharing his love of biking and his love of smiling.
Melissa is a Colorado native who grew up in the nearby Green Mountain area. She and her husband live near downtown Littleton with their feisty Maltese, Lily. Melissa is a retired elementary and middle school teacher who now enjoys time in the classroom as a substitute teacher two or three days a week. She enjoys cycling, traveling, camping, hiking, reading, sewing, and cooking, then eating! Why Melissa loves being a pilot? She gets to share time in the Colorado sunshine enjoying the seasons with friends new and old. She loves to hear people's stories.
Trudee was born in Sturgis, SD and grew up in CA and OK. She moved to Evergreen, CO from OK with her husband 32 years ago. After raising their 2 daughters in Evergreen, they downsized and currently live back and forth between Evergreen and Arvada. Trudee is a retired real estate appraiser and her children live in NC and CA. She has one grandchild. Trudee's hobbies include mountain biking, hiking, swimming, fitness classes, pickleball and reading. Why does Trudee love being a pilot? She is excited for the opportunity to share in nature and the outdoors with her riders while having a one on one interaction with them.
Cathy moved to Colorado in 1981 from Idaho. She enjoys spending time with family - eating, playing games and traveling. Her favorite pastimes are biking, pickleball, paddle boarding and reading. As a pilot, Cathy is looking forward to connecting with others, being outdoors and sharing life experiences and love for the area.
Barb is super excited to join the CWAL team! She considers herself a semi-native, having lived in Colorado since junior high school.
She is a passionate cyclist riding the Platte frequently. Barb also loves to cook, entertain, play tennis and spend time in nature.

Niels was born and raised in the Netherlands, and moved to US in 1983. He has been a Colorado resident since 2009 with no plans of ever leaving. Adventures and travel runs in his veins. Niels has visited all 50 states, and is now working on the rest of the world. In his spare time he hikes 14-ers, runs ultra trail races, competes in Ironman triathlons, skis with his 2 daughters, snowshoes with his wife, and explores the Colorado mountains by bike. Providing others the chance to also experience the great outdoors is a passion, and being a pilot is a wonderful way to give back to his community.
Otto grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and moved to Colorado 25 years ago. Since then, he and his wife have raised two boys. As a family they took full advantage of Colorado’s outdoor beauty. He recently retired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service managing grant programs for fish and wildlife conservation projects throughout the west. Otto loves outdoor activities that include fly fishing, upland hunting, hiking, camping, snow skiing, and of course bicycling. He looks forward to sharing stories with CWAL trishaw passengers!
Jason has lived in Colorado on and off again since his parents moved the family here in 1978. After nearly 20 years as a middle school social studies teacher and secondary school administrator, working in the United States, India, and the United Arab Emirates he and his wife Kim started an international educational consulting firm in 2016. To date, they have worked with schools on 5 continents. Jason loves two wheels be it motorcycles or bicycles. He also enjoys hiking and most things involving the outdoors, especially when the family dog, Eleanor comes along. Jason feels fortunate to have both his and Kim's parent living in Riverpointe- so you may see him there. If you do, please say hello.
Bob is a Colorado native and has lived in Littleton for over 45 years. His hobbies include skiing, cycling, golf and pickleball but his biggest hobby is seeing his 5 grandkids. Bob has served on various boards over the years including Children’s Hospital Colorado, Junior Achievement, CSU Strata, and Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. Prior to graduating (retiring) in 2021, Bob served as Managing Partner and was a founder of the accounting/consulting firm EKS&H (now Plante Moran). What he likes best in life is serving others. When a friend sent him the video of Ole, the founder of CWA, he was hooked. He has seen the trishaws on bike rides many times and is now honored to be part of the CWAL family and enjoy the ride with new friends.
Brian grew up in eastern Nebraska playing soccer, basketball and riding his bike amongst the cornstalks and windswept plains before moving to Minnesota during high school. After attending college in Wisconsin he spent a few years on the south side of Chicago before following his family to Colorado. Over the past 25+ years he and his wife Lisa have raised their two children in Littleton where they both attend Columbine High School. He enjoys snowboarding, snowshoeing, cycling and traveling the Western United States. He is a parent/coach with the Columbine cycling team and loves sharing stories about the local community.
Jennifer grew up in Michigan and has a degree in business marketing from Western Michigan University. Following college, she moved to Breckenridge and after several years went to the police academy in Glenwood Springs. After 10 years with the Vail Police Department, she moved to Denver and now is an Engineer for the Denver Fire Department at Station 30.
Rose, as she is called, is into fitness and enjoys golf, pickleball and her dog. As a CWAL pilot, she is looking forward to the thrill of seeing smiles on our passengers' faces.
Nathan is originally from Abilene, Texas. He and his wife moved to Highlands Ranch from Midland, TX in 2020. His hobbies include basketball, reading, and golf. Why does he love being a pilot? Nathan looks forward to elevating the spirit of every single passenger!
Originally from Charlotte, NC, Matt moved out to Colorado in 2005 to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder Leeds School of Business. Graduating in 2009, he spent time in Utah and Wyoming before finally coming back to Denver in 2014 to start a family with his wife Natalie. They have now live in Littleton and have 2 girls, Reagan and Palmer. Matt enjoys spending time with family, riding bikes with his girls, enjoying snow sports during the winter months and helping out with things in the community. What he likes about being a pilot: hearing others' stories, engaging with new people while outside on the Platte and providing a service that others truly enjoy.
Marycarol was born and raised in Chicago. She moved to Colorado in 1985 with her husband Tony. While raising two sons, her careers took her from wildlife biologist to patient identity expert. She is currently semi-retired enjoying her granddaughters. She enjoys cycling, open water swimming and walking ultramarathons. When the weather doesn't cooperate she knits and sews. She also volunteers for Snow Capped Shepherd Rescue.On her first CWAL training ride, she was amazed by all the smiles she received on the trail and looks forward to helping others smile in the great outdoors. She also hopes to share some wildlife sightings with her passengers.
Reuben is a native Coloradan who grew up in Commerce City but now resides in Littleton. He is a graduate of both the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Colorado. Reuben was a pharmacist at the Children’s Hospital of Colorado for 25 years and at Kaiser Permanente for 13 years. Now retired, he has plenty of time to enjoy many activities such as kayaking, tennis, hiking, biking, reading, home improvement and playing the guitar. He is also interested in volunteer work to help others. Reuben became a pilot in order to bring some joy into the lives of our senior population and others who may have limitations. He is looking forward to making new friends and hearing all their life stories as they share a trishaw experience together.
Bob is a Coloradan by choice - he grew up moving around the Midwest, but moved 'back' to CO in 1999 as soon as it was his own choice. Hobbies include mountain biking, skiing, traveling and volunteering. Why he loves being a pilot? Being a part of something that brings joy and smiles to others while being outdoors. Bob looks forward to meeting new people and hearing all about their adventures in life.
Kathy moved to Denver in 1980 after graduating from Michigan State. She worked at Children’s Hospital for 36 years as a Medical Technologist.
Her hobbies include cycling, hiking, golf, pickleball, traveling and birding.
What is she looking forward to as a pilot? Kathy would love to share her joy of cycling and experiencing beautiful Colorado while meeting new people and making new friends.
Since arriving in this country 24 years ago from South Africa Janet has had such fun getting involved in community volunteer opportunities. CWA is a wonderful fit because she loves to bike ride and experience Denver trails. It will be wonderful to share the trip with those wanting to enjoy the sights and sounds of the outdoors and those who may find it challenging to be mobile. Janet looks forward to meeting and chatting with CWAL trishaw passengers.
Kari grew up in Pittsburgh, PA but finished high school in Orlando, FL. After graduating college she moved to Atlanta, GA where she married her husband and from there they have lived in 6 states in 22 years, saving the best for last! Kari's hobbies include cycling (she has 6 bikes), triathlon, paddleboarding, skiing, hiking and traveling with her husband and their two dogs. Kari has worked in the Fitness and Retirement industries for the last 13 years and is so excited about bringing those two passions together as a Pilot for CWAL! She also volunteers with Little Bellas, Mentoring on Mountain Bikes for young girls ages 8 to 13.
Wing grew up in San Francisco but has lived in Iowa for 32 years. He recently moved to Highlands Ranch with his wife in 2021 to be near one of their three adult children and two grandchildren. Wing’s love for the outdoors started with backpacking the Yosemite and Tahoe areas in his teens. He has cycled on and off for years in between kayaking, hiking and some hang gliding during his travels. Favorite hobbies are reading, traveling, photography, hiking, snowshoeing, and trying different foods while being an accidental chef who is not good at following recipe instructions. He appreciates the value of CWAL in contributing to the well being of many older adults with limited mobility from practicing in a geriatric eyecare practice for many years and is delighted to be involved as a pilot .
Fred was born in Bitburg, Germany while his parents were stationed there for his dad’s first assignment. Fred’s family subsequently moved every three or four years and lived in several places throughout the US as well as England. Fred met his wife Cindy during high school in England and they married after college (Fred attended University of Northern Colorado in Greeley). They have a son and a daughter and four grandchildren.
Freds interests include lots of reading, especially historical fiction and listening to music. Road biking and mountain biking have been his passion for forty years. He enjoys staying fit and used to run a lot and swim. In the last five years, motorcycling has emerged as a fun affair for Fred. He and his wife also enjoy traveling, doing road rides through various mountain passes worldwide and taking sailing trips, especially in the British Virgin Islands.
Fred is looking forward to learning all about the trishaw passengers he’ll be taking as well as meeting a lot of the other pilots and volunteers who are involved in CWAL.
Johnny was raised in Iowa on a farm and fell in love with cycling at an early age. He has raced, toured, worked as a bicycle mechanic, helped lead the Learn To Bike program at Epic Mountain Gear's Bicycle program. John has lived and breathed bikes for more than 50 years. He and his bikes have moved to Colorado several times firstly to Rocky Ford, in March of 1979 and lastly from Los Angeles - each time separately from his beloved bikes with which he was thankfully always reunited. John spent 18 years in Vail and moved to the Front Range in 2007, where he was a bicycle mechanic and truck driver. He is now retired and loves talking with people of all ages and walks of life. He is looking forward to being a pilot with Cycling Without Age Littleton!
Tom is originally from Des Moines and moved at an early age to a rural Ohio farming community. In 1977, he moved to Colorado. Tom is married and has three grown daughters. His hobbies include cycling, motorcycle touring, skiing and camping.Tom's interest in becoming a pilot is to share in the stories and conversations with others that always seem to have fascinating backgrounds and often common interests.
Bob lives in southern Jefferson County (Ken Caryl Area). He likes to do just about anything outdoors (bike, ski, hike, ...) with friends and family. His professional career was in public land management (parks, open space). He is a pilot because he wants to meet people, learn their stories/perspectives and help provide great outdoor experiences!
Marquez (aka Kez) is an Iowa native who has been visiting Colorado his whole life! Before moving to Colorado in 2008 at the age of 12, he spent many weekends on his great grandparents' farm where he fostered a hard work ethic at a young age. When Kez is not working as a realtor, he truly cherishes his time with family, friends, attending events and giving his Rottweiler Kane attention! Some of his hobbies include juggling, cycling, traveling, mediating, volunteering and studying different languages.
What Kez is looking forward to as a CWAL pilot is getting to know his passengers, listening to the stories they share and soaking up their wisdom while enjoying the fresh air, the nature and beauty of cycling along the Platte River!
John is originally from Pittsburgh, attended the University of Pittsburgh was a state champ gymnast. He moved to Denver in 1979 after discovering that Taco Bell isn’t Mexican food and that he was in love with Lynn his wife who was already living here. They have 2 sons and 3 grand kids. John is a retired general contractor, avid cyclist, skier, musician, studier of languages and in general a fun-loving person. He looks forward to using his experience with older adults in connecting to his passengers as a CWAL pilot.
Clay grew up in Kansas City, KS, studied geology at the University of Kansas, and worked the bulk of his professional career in Calgary, Alberta. He loves adventure, exploring the country in a sprinter van with his wife and cat, riding anything with two wheels, and snow skiing. The reason he volunteers with CWAL is to give back to the community and make meaningful connections with older adults and the less fortunate. Clay thinks offering volunteer service and riding a trishaw at the same time is about as good as it gets.
Dan is a born and raised Colorado boy growing up in Westminster. Having lived here his whole life, he was fortunate to grow up skiing, fishing, riding bikes, upland bird hunting and playing golf, of which he still participates. Travel, scuba diving, beekeeping, volunteering and grand kids have been added to the list to complete a busy life. He worked for a biotech company Genentech as a representative; Genentech produces the drug that is saving lives in the treatment of heart attacks and embolic strokes. Why he loves being a pilot? To help people realize that they still matter and know their contributions to this world have made it a better place.
Dale grew up in Franklin, Ohio and worked in New Mexico for 35 years before moving to Colorado; he first settled in Highlands Ranch in 2011 and relocated in 2019 to downtown Littleton's VITA. Dale enjoys running, riding (bikes), skiing, and hiking. He is looking forward to the the thrill of meeting new friends as a trishaw pilot. CWAL looks forward to Dale's assistance in growing the trishaw passenger base at VITA!
Lisa is a retired school teacher educated at Iowa State University who was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She relocated back to Colorado 2 years ago, after teaching here at the start of her career and then living in Iowa for 23 years.
Lisa's hobbies include cycling, hiking, skiing, swimming, cooking, reading and spending time with family. She is excited to be a trishaw pilot because it is a unique way to share laughter and the love of the outdoors while making new friendships.
Mary is originally from Michigan and was in the Incentive Travel business based in New York City for 25 years. She moved her family back to Denver in 2003 (Mary had attended DU) which has been a great place to raise her two adopted children from Moldova. As a family, they love to ski, golf, play pickleball, hike and bike. Their love of the outdoors, sports and living on the Platte was a life saver during COVID! Mary has been with Trader Joe's for 10 years and loves the happy work environment. She really looks forward to spending time with people from all walks of life and hearing about their experiences.
Dawn is a Pilates instructor originally from Iowa and has spent most of her adult life in the Denver area. She has lived in Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, & Tennessee. The beauty of living in different parts of the country has afforded her to develop a liking to many different hobbies, such as, hiking, biking, rowing, snowshoeing, traveling, and cooking. Having spent her career in health and fitness industry, CWAL was the perfect fit. She spends much of her time watching her boys play college & high school sports. Dawn looks forward to all of the stories shared on the trishaw and friendships made. She feels we can all gain a wealth of knowledge from the older adults in our community!
Scott was born in Denver and grew up in Littleton. He graduated from Littleton High School, Denver University, and Gonzaga University. Scott is retired and his hobbies include golf, fly fishing, and cycling. He and his wife live in Grant Ranch and have 9 grandchildren.
Scott is excited to be a CWAL pilot because he enjoys cycling and volunteering. He is particularly motivated to put smiles on the faces of older adults and others unable to get outside and feel the exhilarating, freeing experience that cycling can bring.
Kerry is a Colorado native - he grew up on the western slope but has lived in the Denver Metro area for 30+ years. He is an Army Veteran and currently works for Littleton Public Schools in the Transitions Program which serves students with disabilities between the ages of 18-21 following high school. Kerry will be retiring soon and looks forward to traveling and volunteering to fill his time. He is excited to join the CWAL team and looks forward to meeting new people and helping others enjoy the beauty of Colorado, specifically, Littleton.
Jeff was a Navy brat, and settled in Colorado with his wife Pam in 1991. They raised 3 beautiful daughters, while biking, hiking, skiing, and traveling the world. Jeff's finishing up a 35 year career as a United Pilot and loves cycling - he and Pam spent the last week of July in 2022 and 2023 riding across Iowa in the RAGBRAI. Being a CWAL Pilot combines Jeff's love of connection and being active outdoors in beautiful Colorado!
Jason is a Colorado native and a father of 4 with 2 grandchildren, working in the Home Health and Hospice community. He grew up in the Littleton area but went to high school at The South Park High School in Fairplay, CO. After college at Metro State, Jason joined the Navy and served as a Navy diver on submarines where he had the great opportunity to travel to 12 different countries learning about a variety of cultures. Jason's hobbies include mountain biking, hiking, skiing, exploring Brain Science and pretty much anything in the Rocky Mountains. Due to the great joy he gets from mountain biking and serving the community, CWAL is a natural fit and he looks forward to meeting new people and hearing their stories.
Barb was born and raised in Chicago and later Dolton, IL. She moved to Colorado in 1976 after vacationing there earlier as a teenager. She knew this is where she wanted to live and enjoy all the things Colorado offers. She and her husband, John, raised their 3 children here and now have an 8 year old grandson. Since retiring from teaching she and John have enjoyed many bicycle touring trips. Barb also enjoys hiking, gardening, traveling, volunteering and spending time with family and friends. The experience she wants from piloting is bringing joy to her guests and letting them feel the wonder of nature and being outdoors. Of course, making friends and sharing stories is part of her plan!
Gil grew up in west Denver. He attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Kennedy as a result of Denver's mandatory bussing program his senior year. He attended CSU, majoring in accounting. He then worked in the accounting group of Englewood-based Information Handling Services (IHS) for 40 years. Post-retirement, he is a part-time lifeguard during the winter at Buck Recreation Center and during the summer cuts grass at Lone Tree Golf Course. Gil and his wife, Carol, stay active by cycling, swimming, running (Carol)/walking (Gil), and of course, pickleball. He loves listening to fiction audiobooks while walking. Spending time with their locally-based four children and their families is a highlight. His love of cycling was a huge draw to becoming a volunteer pilot with CWAL.
John is a native of Colorado born in Raton, NM. He and his lovely wife Barb, who is also a pilot, enjoy bicycle touring and have ridden their bikes from Denver to Chicago (2016-2017). They were also members of the Pedaling for Parkinson's team, raising $2600 while riding in the Register's Annual Bicycle Ride across Iowa (RAGBRAI 2018 and 2019). John and Barb have ridden bikes in 49 of the 50 US States, completing their last 5 states in March 2024.They have 3 adult children and an 8 year old grandson. John enjoys volunteering for historic preservation at both the Littleton Historic Museum and various locations throughout the US. He also enjoys gardening and woodworking. Through trishaw piloting, he looks forward to meeting and bringing the “Wind in Your Hair Experience” to those who may not have the opportunity otherwise.
Andy is originally from Denver. He grew up in Tucson, made his way back to the Denver area after earning his engineering degree and has managed to call the Denver metro area home while enjoying work assignments around the world. He is kind of retired but cannot help himself and consults on a part time basis. He and his wife Kristin currently reside in Columbine Valley with great access to bicycling, walking, hiking, camping, and snowshoeing. Andy is excited to be a pilot to support the local community and share life stories along the way.
Mike is a native of Philadelphia who misses its cheesesteaks and inexpensive pizza. Following a peripatetic educational path, he spent 30 years as a genetics professor, researcher, and educator in Virginia, Maryland, and Colorado. His hobbies include cycling, rock climbing and mountaineering, home landscaping, playing the piano, and keeping up with the latest science. Mike and his wife love traveling and hiking, both domestically and internationally. Piloting with CWA Littleton is a great opportunity to socialize with passengers and volunteers and to learn the stories of their lives.
Dick grew up in a small town in Indiana. Currently retired, he graduated from Purdue University in electrical engineering technology. He worked for Intel Corporation for 21 years in high tech semiconductor sales and marketing. He has lived in Indiana, Milwaukee, Los Angeles, Parker & Roxborough, Colorado. He is an avid cyclist, both road and mountain biking, also loves skiing and hiking. His wife and he enjoy spending quality time with their two kids (and their spouses), and six grandkids. Dick loves volunteering with Dry Bones Denver, Love INC Littleton, and is co-leader in Master's Men at Valley View Christian Church. He loves trains and recently became one of the seasonal garden train operators at Hudson Gardens. Dick became a pilot because he enjoys biking and helping others who still enjoy going for a ride, but are not able to pedal anymore. He loves hearing and sharing stories with lots of folks.
Mike was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago. After vacationing in Colorado several times his goal was to relocate here after college. He has been here since 1979 and considers it the best decision he's ever made. Mike has lived in Highlands Ranch for over 30 years with his wife and raised two children. HIs hobbies include golf, pickleball and serving at the local food bank in Littleton. Being a pilot with CWAL will provide Mike an opportunity to give back to the community.
Jeff grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. After earning a petroleum engineering degree, he worked in Denver, Los Angeles and Anchorage before settling back in Colorado. He and his wife have two grown daughters. His hobbies include cycling, skiing, fishing and playing the bass. Jeff is looking forward to being a CWAL pilot to give back to the community and to share his love of cycling. He is excited to hear his passenger’s stories and to connect with others.
Mark lives in Littleton with his family. His interests include wood carving, coffee roasting, hiking and hearing a story well told. He especially enjoys volunteering anywhere he can be outdoors and of service to others.
Sarah is originally from Central Illinois and moved to Colorado in 2013. She enjoys all of the typical Colorado outdoor activities, spending time with her husband and Mini Aussie, reading, and photography. Sarah is looking forward to providing wind in your hair experiences and getting to know passengers!
Marie was born in Nebraska, but moved to Colorado in the late 1970s and has been happy to be here ever since.
She worked for 45 years as an RN in the OB field and is happily retired now.
She and her husband have four children and seven grandchildren. Marie began biking around 2015 and never could’ve believed that she'd do some of the rides she does now!
Marie's 95-year-old mother is her role model, as she is still riding her bike, (actually now a trike), as weather permits. She uses her cane or walker to get to the bike, throws it in the basket and hops right on.
Marie is looking forward to meeting many passengers as well as allowing others to feel the wind in their hair on a bike!🚴
A 4th generation Colorado native, Mike was born in Boulder and has lived on the east and west slopes of Colorado. He attended Colorado State University (GO RAMS), where he met his wife of over 50 years. Over the years, Mike has spent many hours coaching soccer, football, and wrestling. His favorite part of being a CWAL pilot is meeting the riders, and listening to their interesting and unique stories.
Jeanne grew up in Fort Wayne, IN and has lived in California, Texas and now in Colorado for 30 years. She fell in love with biking as a child and never quit. Jeanne enjoys mountain biking, kayaking, cooking and exploring the beauty of Colorado. She is excited to be a pilot and share her love of biking with others and bring smiles and laughter to others while enjoying the outdoors.
Mike grew up in Washington State, served six years in the Marine Corps, and still enjoys being actively engaged in public service today through a role in local government. He spent 10 years in Arizona before moving his family to Littleton with their adventurous Yorkie, Josie. They love participating in Littleton community events like concerts, the Criterium cycle race, Western Welcome Week, and so much more. He felt an instant connection with the CWAL mission and community, seeing these shared trishaw experiences as an ideal way to connect with and learn from community members like you.
Nadine is a Colorado native, but has lived in a few other places. Her cycling interest began in 2004 where she rode her first MS150 ride and did so for the next 13 years. Nadine enjoys being outdoors and hobbies include cycling, hiking, walking and reading. As a piot, Nadine is looking forward to sharing the beautiful outdoors with others while getting to hear their stories and putting a smile on their faces!
Marc was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and raised in Northern Ohio, along the shores of Lake Erie. He now lives in Littleton, where he serves as Chair of the Architecture Department at the University of Colorado Denver. He and his wife, Connie, have two daughters, one in college and one in high school. Marc commutes to CU Denver on his bike most days, along the Platte River, and he enjoys running, swimming, and skiing. He is an avid reader and sketcher. If you're interested in seeing his travel sketches, he'd happily share them before your next ride! Marc looks forward to his rides with the CWAL Community, meeting and talking with new people and hearing stories from their rich lives!
Tim grew up around the US and beyond; born in North Carolina, in the mid-1960s his family lived on a small island (Kwajalein) in the south Pacific, graduated from high school in North Dakota, undergraduate in Illinois and graduate school in Arizona. Before starting a two-decade career in international sales management for information database firms he lived, studied, and worked in Japan and Taiwan. After leaving the corporate world and before retiring in 2023 he used his private pilot license to start a second career as a commercial drone pilot and instructor. Colorado has been his home since 1991 (except for three years in Hawaii) with his wife Kris and two sons. Tim’s hobbies are golf, swimming, playing the drums and traveling with Kris. He is looking forward to meeting you, piloting your trishaw and hearing your story.
Clare is a native of Colorado and grew up in Southwest Denver. She currently lives in Morrison. Clare is an avid golfer, quilter, hiker, skier, swimmer, crafter and organizer. She is happy to be a part of the CWA team because it is a way to meet people from all walks of life and share laughter and stories while enjoying the scenic trails in Colorado.
Dave moved to Colorado as a kid in 1969 and grew up in Boulder where he gained his love of the outdoors and all Colorado has to offer. He now resides in Castle Rock and has been in the area 25 years. He is an avid mountain biker and hiker, and an occasional backpacker, bike packer and tent camper. He really enjoys spending time with his 4 grand kids. He also enjoys reading and playing the classical guitar.
Dave looks forward to volunteering with CWAL and providing an opportunity for all to enjoy the benefits of cycling and being outside.
Dave has lived in Colorado, Los Angeles, New York, Boston and on the Gulf Coast of Florida. He treasures spending time outside and wants to help others enjoy a bit of sun, a breeze and a bird or three, too. Dave lives in Denver with his two children, his wife and their dog. He's worked in local journalism for about 15 years and loves hearing about people's lives, concerns, triumphs and tales. He's looking forward to hearing passengers' favorite outdoor memories, accomplishments or wish lists.
As a kid, Kim traveled a lot as part of an Air Force family. Her dad flew B52s and then helicopters. As a result of moving to different bases, Kim had been to all of the states west of the Mississippi by the time she was 13 years old. Kim moved to Colorado in the mid-80s and her hobbies include gardening, cycling, pickleball and hiking.
Why a CWAL pilot?
Kim heard about the trishaw program years ago, and after retiring in January finally has time to participate. It’s a great way to combine cycling, being in nature and getting to know new people. She looks forward to meeting new people and sharing stories!
Caroyln was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada and has lived in various parts of the world, from the Philippines to Nigeria to the Dominican Republic. Puedo hablar espanol! She and her family - husband and four children - have lived in Colorado for almost 25 years now. She looks forward to meeting passengers and sharing adventures on the trishaw! Bike riding gives Carolyn joy and she hopes to share that joy with passengers. Nothing soothes the soul and enlivens the spirit like getting out in nature and feeling the wind in your hair.
Billy grew up in Independence, Missouri and moved to Colorado for college, graduating from CU-Boulder with degrees in Astronomy & Film Studies. He's lived in Westminster, Golden, Boulder, Glendale, Lakewood, and now Littleton.
Billy is a bicyclist & volunteer (obviously), animal lover, cinephile, hockey (go Avs!) and football (go Chiefs!) fan, video gamer, and news junkie.
Hie is excited about being a CWAL pilot because bringing someone else happiness is the greatest feeling. If he is able to help them feel joy or just forget about their worries for a little while, who wouldn't want to do this? Billy will get to meet interesting people, get a little sunshine and some activity... he is still waiting to hear the catch!
DiAhn was born and raised in a military family, living in North Dakota, Oregon, Montana and then southern California where she did all her schooling, including college.
She went to med school at Tulane in New Orleans and then to Colorado for residency, where she has been since 1992. DiAhn met and married a Colorado native. She is still working part time as a geriatric house call doctor in Denver and hospitalist on the eastern plains.
DiAhn enjoys traveling, biking, hiking, running, reading, fostering dogs for the last 15 years, and loves being a grandma!
She was drawn to becoming a CWAL pilot by her love of older people and desire to connect with them and hear their stories.
Matt recently retired from a career in network security and relocated to Castle Rock from San Jose, California with his wife Karen and their two Rhodesian Ridgebacks (Odin and Loki). Outside of wrangling two pony size dogs, Matt enjoys riding bikes (road, mountain, gravel, tandem or time trial), hiking, snow shoeing, fine dining and gardening. For many years, Matt and Karen were volunteer coaches for Team-In-Training, the fund-raising organization for Leukemia Lymphoma Society, guiding participants to successfully complete the Lake Tahoe and Tour de Tucson centuries. Volunteering as a CWAL pilot is a means of giving back to the community and helping those who cannot ride themselves enjoy the same sights, sounds, smells and fresh air that we enjoy each time we ride.
Pam was born in Massachusetts and grew up in Fredonia, New York. She lived in five other states before making Colorado her home 22 years ago. She has been married to her husband Bill for 34 years. Together they have two grown sons. Pam was a school psychologist for 30 years before retiring in 2023.
Cycling has been a big part of Pam’s family life for many years. She continues to love cycling and the feeling of freedom that comes from being on a bike. Her other passions include hiking, camping, watercolors, quilting, knitting, reading and spending time with her three dogs.
Why does she love being a pilot? Sharing her love of cycling and the great outdoors. She is also excited about giving back to the community and learning about local history from the area’s long-time residents.
