CWAL has a van!! Thanks to the unbelievable generous financial support from our donors coupled with the countless hours a few key CWAL volunteers have spent researching and overseeing the purchase and ownership process, training of drivers and readying the van to safely transport 2 trishaws - we are ready to roll!
Dry Creek Sertoma Club presented CWAL with a $2,300 earlier this summer, $2,000 was a grant from the National Sertoma Grant Program, and $300 a direct donation from the generouslocal group. Dry Creek's amazing suppill allow CWAL to broaden its reach and bring wind in the hair experiences to those who can't come to us!
Dry Creek Sertoma not only secured a national grant for CWAL along with a direct donation of their own, but were so moved by Barb's steadfast passion and commitment, they chose her for their 2022-23 Service to Mankind award. This honors outstanding volunteers making a significant impact in their community, and Barb certainly fits that bill! Along with the award, Dry Creek donated an additional $100 to CWAL. CWAL is over the moon excited to be awarded this incredibly generous grant from the Littleton Rotary Foundation to help toward the recent van purchase allowing us to transport two trishaws. This added mobility expands CWAL's ability to bring wind in the hair experiences to those beyond our Riverpointe/Platte River boundaries, thus increasing the number of people we can impact with the simple yet profound opportunity of a trishaw experience. We deeply appreciate the Littleton Rotary providing us with this grant to help further our mission of ensuring the most vulnerable are not the least visible.
The Surgeon General Vice Admiral Vivek Murthy has recently declared loneliness as an unaddressed public health crisis in our country. At a Fortune Brainstorm Health conference in April, he had this to say: "
“It turns out loneliness is a public health issue. And I would say it has risen to the level of being a public health crisis. It’s an experience that we all have from time to time, but when it’s persistent, or when it’s extreme, it can actually come with significant health risks. We all know that loneliness is associated with increased risk of anxiety and depression and suicide, but it’s also associated with an increased risk of heart disease and premature death, as well as dementia. And when you actually look at the risk of premature death related to loneliness, it’s comparable to the increased risk of premature death due to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and it is greater than the risk associated with obesity…And it’s extraordinarily common. Around one in two Americans are experiencing loneliness."

CWAL is proud to be an organization that is working feverishly to stamp out this trend, and to ensure that the most vulnerable are not the least visible. Our trishaw outings are more than 'just' a ride - they are a simple yet deeply profound experience allowing multiple levels of connection to occur among CWAL pilots and other volunteers, passengers and passersby as well as with the beauty and nature in which these trishaw outings occur.
